Abstract
The purpose of this technical recommendation is to define the display characteristics of subtitles for cinematographic works screened from digital cinema files (DCP, or Digital Cinema Package). This document supplements the provisions already set out in the standards ISO 26428-7 "DCDM Part 7 – Subtitle" and SMPTE ST 428-7:2014 "Digital Cinema Distribution Master – Subtitle", which describe subtitle source files.

La présente recommandation technique a pour objet de définir les caractéristiques d’affichage des sous-titres pour les œuvres cinématographiques diffusées depuis des fichiers de cinéma numérique (DCP ou Digital Cinema Package).

Ce document vient en complément des dispositions déjà proposées dans les articles des standards ISO 26428-7 « DCDM Part 7 – Subtitle » - SMPTE ST 428-7:2014 Digital Cinema Distribution Master – Subtitle, décrivant les fichiers source de sous-titrage.

Defines display characteristics of subtitles in DCPs: 2K/4K title-safe areas per aspect ratio, line count and positioning, characters per line, font handling, on/off timing and display duration, Interop and SMPTE XML formatting (incl. 3D and PNG subtitles), and SME (deaf and hard-of-hearing) subtitle colour coding. Complements ISO 26428-7 / SMPTE ST 428-7.
