Abstract: A standard environment for viewing color pictures is proposed based on the CBC's experience in television control rooms. The main feature is a lit monitoring wall that controls the contrast between the monitor pictures and the surround. A prototype review room has been built to provide one electronic and one optical picture side by side. The two pictures are made to look as alike as possible in size, brightness and color temperature. In a Canadian recommended practice for film review rooms a color temperature of 5000°K has been chosen for the light source as a compromise between the requirements of the television and film industries.
