Abstract
The emergence of a 2 million pixel 16:9 charge-coupled device (CCD) imager has substantially advanced the overall performance of the HDTV camera. The protracted electronic pursuit of 35mm motion-picture film imaging quality is now effectively over. This article compares the performance attributes of an HDTV CCD camera with 35mm fdmfrom the viewpoint of parameters critical to originating high-end television programs, including camera sensitivity, picture sharpness, dynamic range, and noise.
