- Abstract
- Since 1977, broadcasters in North America have been introduced to a series of digital video special effect systems that have given the video producer a vast range of manipulative capabilities. Initially, principal attention was paid to the appearance of the effects themselves and less work was done in the area of how, operationally, those effects were put together. Today the range of creative potential housed in these digital tools has expanded significantly. Like all tools. their effectiveness is determined by the operator's ability to understand and utilize them fully. In today's modern broadcast environment p that operator is very likely to be the technical director (TD). Namely, the person with the ultimate responsibility to see that the right buttons get pushed at the right time, and whose knowledge of the capabilities of the equipment, frequently, significantly contributes to the creative realization of the production.
