- Abstract
- The accelerating pace of the development of digital techniques for television has presented the Broadcaster with an interesting dilemma. On the one hand he sees the power of the techniques to provide solutions to engineering problems, extend existing capabilities and create new effects and thus applies pressure to the industry to speed up development. On the other hand, he sees that very pressure bringing with it the high probability of equipment purchased this year being obsolescent next year.

bio
After graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from Manchester University and a Master's Degree in Electronics, Richard Taylor joined the Research Labs of EMI. It was here that he originally became involved with broadcast television when he designed the first live automatic registration system for color cameras. Mr. Taylor later moved on to manage the Video Processing Department where he was responsible for a number of novel designs, among which were unmanned airborne reconnaissance systems, digital standards convertors and image processing systems for infrared cameras. Subsequently Mr. Taylor left to take up the post of Managing Director of Quantel Limited. Quantel specializes in Digital Video Products, and during his time with the company, Mr. Taylor has seen built up an impressive list of unique equipment for the broadcaster. - Copyright
