Establishing and Maintaining Printer Light Color Balance in Additive Color Printing by a System of Controlled Chance

Abstract: The problem treated in this paper does not refer to the process of timing color negatives, but to the necessity of maintaining uniform color quality from print to print. A definite color balance for a given set of printing conditions must be established. This balance will often depend on unknown quantities such as shifts in relative color sensitivity of print materials from one emulsion number to another. General stability conditions of an additive printing process are mentioned. A system of controlled chance is defined. Essentials of the system proposed are enumerated and described. Some mathematical reasons for the selection of an adequate number and sequence of possible printer-light trial combinations are discussed. Economic considerations are discussed briefly.
