Abstract: [From the introduction by SMPTE President Simmons at the Convention Get-Together Luncheon, October 5, 1959: Our speaker might be introduced from either of two successful careers. He has served the photographic industry for over thirty years and is a Vice-President and a member of the Board of Directors of Eastman Kodak Co. He is responsible for Eastman's motion-picture film business throughout the world and supervises Eastman's general business in Europe. In these capacities he has become acquainted with the problems and personalities of the world's motion-picture and TV industries. He can also be introduced as a man highly distinguished in the field of aviation, beginning with service as a combat pilot in France in World War I. His interest in aviation took him into service at the start of World War II, and his distinguished military career terminated with his service as Chief of Staff of the U.S. Strategic Air Force in Europe where he attained the rank of Major General. Since the War he has held various appointive posts in Washington including special assistant to the President, for aviation planning in 1956. From this came a report of long-range planning to meet the complex problems of using the air in the jet age, a report for which he was awarded the Collier Trophy by the National Aeronautic Association.]
