Abstract: Philips Technical Review 33, No. 7 (published 18 October 1973) four articles have been published on the video long-play system (VLP), which has been developed at Philips Research Laboratories (Eindhoven, The Netherlands). The first of these four articles explains how the information is recorded on a Philips video long-play record and how it is scanned by the playing equipment. The other three articles are about signal processing during both recording and playback, the optical system used in the player and the control systems. These articles gave a picture of the state of development in the beginning of 1973. Of course in the meanwhile further progress has been made. — drs. J. W. Miltenburg, Editor-in-Chief
