Abstract
A new color film telecine is described that uses tristimulus charge-coupled-device (CCD) sensors, a continuous-motion film transport, and a semiconductor frame storage system to construct an interlaced TV picture signal. Each CCD line sensor employs “buried channel” technology with separate integration and read-out sites. After integrating the light over a one-line period, the 1024 picture elements are shifted out to form one active-line RGB signal. A RAM (random access memory) provides a stored signal to correct sensitivity variations in the CCDs. The telecine can be made to generate PAL, SECAM, and NTSC standard signals. Telecine and CCD technology are reviewed at the outset.
