Abstract: A description of recent work carried on to study and formulate requirements to be met by the sound systems of motion picture theaters in order that the reproduction may be of a quality consistent with the recording technic available for some years to come. After setting up requirements relating to sound equipment; load capacitites; efficiency; volume ranges; transient, phase, and attenuation distortion; horn distribution characteristics; size; weight; costs; etc., the paper goes on to describe the design, installation, and performance, of the Shearer two-way horn system, engineered to meet the high standard of performance set up. The material of the paper is useful not only in connection with motion picture sound systems but also with public address systems and home radio equipments.
