Abstract: A survey for providing data on currently prevailing audio-visual projection conditions in classrooms is described. Only visual problems and the quality of the projected image were considered in this study. Classrooms were classified into several categories, providing a reasonable representation of the audio-visual environment in the geographical areas surveyed. Measurements of stray light levels and brightness ratios were made, using projection equipment belonging to the schools. It was found that the individual classroom is now regularly the center for audiovisual presentations and that improvements are needed. An effective solution in most cases would be the installation of more efficient window shielding to achieve the necessary low stray light levels. Further study, guidance and the dissemination of pertinent information to the educational community are urgently needed.
