Abstract: The Navy's Industrial Incentive Division was established in May, 1942, for the purpose of bringing home in proper perspective to the worker his important role in the war effort. The end result sought is to increase the production and quality of fighting equipment and material. To do this, many techniques are utilized, but it was determined that the motion picture would be a most effective medium to dramatize to the worker his importance in winning the war. Accordingly, it was decided to produce incentive films for exclusive showing to workers in plants producing for the Navy. The philosophy behind the employment of incentive films is that the worker who sees them can project himself on the screen and obtain a better, fuller understanding of the job ahead. These films are being shown now in hundreds of war plants. Reports indicate that Industrial Incentive films are proving an important stimulus to production.
