Abstract
This article discusses a 16:9 aspect ratio, 525-line, progressive scanning television camera that employs a newly developed multiple-frame-interline-transfer (M-FIT) charge-coupled device (CCD) and digital signal-processing technologies. Although picture quality is high, the cost of this camera is not too different from that of conventional interlace cameras. The M-FIT CCD, the digital signal processing, the transmission of progressive signals, and applications that make good use of the high-quality progressive signals are also discussed.
