- Abstract
- This paper describes a high-speed charge-coupled device (CCD) camera that has been developed for commercial, industrial, and scientific applications. It uses a 1024-line progressive scan imager with two video output channels. The dual-channel outputs provide a total data rate of 40 million pixels/sec, using “square pixel” sampling. The camera incorporates electronic shuttering triggered by an external source, so that the exposure period and frame rate can be precisely controlled. The camera features high linearity, low noise, wide dynamic range, and low shading. An early prototype of this camera was used by Fox News, Inc., to digitize film news-reels for the Fox Movietone project.
