- Abstract
- The year 1992 brought forth 238 films that qualified for Academy Award consideration, which coincidentally is the same number of films that qualified in 1991. By the time this writing gets to press, the world will know which of these films and which of the performances in them were considered the best. On the technical side of motion pictures in 1992 there were no breakthroughs similar in magnitude to those of the T-grain and Sigma crystal-grain technologies. However, 1992 did see solid technical advances and the implementation into commercial practice of some of those advances reported in the past few years. As I have done in my previous reports as Editorial Director, Motion Pictures, I shall highlight the several key technical advances that I Consider the most significant to the future of motion pictures. The 1990s will be the decade of facing up to and dealing responsibly with environmental concerns. I, therefore, shall list those items to which I think we in the motion-picture industry must give top priority in order to remain the good, responsible corporate citizens that we have worked hard to become.
