Abstract
Electronic cinematography has been hindered in the past by broadcast-imposed standards. For film to be shown on the wide screen from scenes shot electronically, a new approach is necessary. It is suggested that first-order red, green, and blue images, with sufficient resolution and at least 2200 scan lines, be shot at a frame rate that is compatible with motion-picture film and recorded on three parallel tracks of an RGB high-definition television (HDTV) recorder. The quality of its film output would be consistent with the current all-film systems of today. This HDTV technology would have wide application in the post-production of motion pictures.
