- Abstract
- As soon as semi-permanent pictures were obtained in the infancy of photography, investigators quickly developed methods to obtain measurements from these photographs, a technique that was called photogrammetry. This paper concentrates on those aspects of the subject that pertain to analysis and reduction of data collected on motion picture film at cine or highspeed frame rates. Even though an individual photograph taken at a precise instant contains much information, two pictures separated by a time interval offer even more information. Along with the development of motion picture techniques, suitable projectors were also developed to enable efficient analyses to be made. The stop motion projectors now in common use were eventually developed. The field is rapidly changing, and many innovations are evolving. Digitizing devices that have been developed to increase speed and accuracy in data reduction are described. Advances in solid state electronics make it possible to add many special features to digitizing equipment, some of which are enumerated. Information from the equipment can be transmitted to computers for the necessary processing.
