- Abstract
- The operation of a solid-state sensor telecine in color presents all the problems of monochrome operation together with new ones associated with color. The monochrome problems have been previously described in the SMPTE Journal, and only aspects of color operation are discussed here. Color operation brings with it problems of registration of three sensors, the need for correct color analysis, which can be difficult with restricted blue response sensors, and a noise characteristic which causes the noise to be excessively visible. In the meantime, excellent picture quality is being obtained, all aspects of performance being as good or better than can be achieved with existing techniques with the exception of noise visibility. It is believed that further development of sensors will solve this problem, particularly if such development is more specifically directed to this application.
