Abstract
This paper details CBC/Radio-Canada's journey into software-defined production workflows, a strategic initiative driven by our collaboration with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and other industry partners. By leveraging the Dynamic Media Facility (DMF) reference architecture, we aimed to tackle key industry challenges. We explore our approach to creating a universal user interface and offer an honest assessment of the latencies inherent in software-based systems. Our experience underscores the positive potential of the DMF model, highlighting our use of open-source initiatives such as the Media eXchange Layer (MXL) to close gaps, along with our strategies for building a truly universal and efficient platform.
