bio
Walt Husak is the director of image technologies at Dolby Labs, Inc. He began his television career 25 years ago at the Advanced Television Test Center (ATTC) where he, carrying out video objective measurements and RF multipath testing of HDTV systems, proposed for the ATSC standard. After ATSC testing was completed, Husak worked on issues related to the deployment of HDTV systems in the U.S. and the rest of the world. Husak spent many years lecturing on topics such as video compression, RF transmission for digital television (DTV), and overcoming multipath signals in urban and rural environments. Joining Dolby in 2000 as a member of the chief technology officer's office, Husak studied and reported on advanced compression systems for D-Cinema, DTV, and Blu-ray. He has managed or executed visual quality tests for Digital Cinema Initiatives (DCI), ATSC, Dolby, and MPEG and is currently focusing his efforts on 3D and HDR for digital television. Husak has authored numerous articles and papers for a number of major industry publications and holds several patents. Husak is an active member of SMPTE, MPEG, JPEG, ITU-R, and SPIE. He currently chairs the MPEG HDR & WCG AHG and the JPEG Requirements Group. He has also chaired numerous AHGs among several standards bodies.
