Abstract: The Joint Task Force on Networked Media (JT-NM) was created to help manage the transition from broadcast infrastructures that are based on specialty broadcast equipment and interfaces (SDI, AES, etc.) to IT-based packet networks (Ethernet, IP, etc.). It is jointly sponsored by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE), and the Video Services Forum (VSF). The effort spans the entire professional media industry and all of its applications, including live and file-based.

Brad Gilmer is president of Gilmer & Associates, Inc., a management and technology-consulting firm, providing business and technical consulting services to the television industry. Gilmer is executive director of the Video Services Forum (VSF), and executive director of the Advanced Media Workflow Association (AMWA). Gilmer is a Fellow of the SMPTE and he has been an active participant within SMPTE since 1984. He was previously employed as director of engineering and operations at Turner Broadcasting System, Inc., in Atlanta. His staff managed technical and operational aspects of Turner Entertainment's television networks worldwide, including TBS, TNT, and Cartoon Network. Gilmer is author of the monthly Computer and Networks column in Broadcast Engineering magazine, editor-in-chief of the “File Interchange Handbook” (Focal Press), a contributor to the NAB Engineering Handbook, and is a frequent presenter at broadcast conventions, including SMPTE, VidTrans, NAB and IBC.
Felix Poulin
bio
Felix Poulin is senior project manager of multi-disciplinary work groups related to media production networks and storage at the EBU Technology and Innovation in Switzerland. Poulin has “grown up” in studios as his parents worked in TV production. His inherited curiosity for technology led him to acquire a diploma in electrical engineering at the École Polytechnique de Montréal completed by a research project at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. After graduating, he began work as a wireless and digital audio expert on international productions, including at Cirque du Soleil. Prior to the EBU, he worked for national broadcaster CBC/Radio-Canada as engineer in Radio-TV production technologies. Poulin is member of SMPTE and co-chair of the Joint EBU/SMPTE/VSF Task Force on Networked Media.
