Abstract: The biggest change in video infrastructure is not about video; it's about IT and compute clouds. The persistent conversion of AV-specific gear to all things IT continues. Over the past ten years, file-based production and broadcast workflows have become mature. However, the migration of realtime AV workflows to IT (read Ethernet instead of SDI) has taken a back seat, until now. With the advent of Software Defined Networks and Storage, 10G Ethernet, low latency network switching, compute/desktop virtualization methods and widely available web apps (SaaS model), the complete transition to the “all-IT media facility” is on the horizon.
