- Abstract
- Traditional broadcast infrastructures only had to support one version each of SDTV and HDTV, plus extensions such as RGB 4:4:4 for better chroma keys. Now we need to support 4:4:4:4 for external keys, high dynamic range (HDR) imaging, stereoscopic 3D, 4K D-Cinema, UHDTV- 1 and UHDTV-2 production image formats, higher frame rates, etc., all of which drive realtime streaming media bandwidth requirements. How do we accommodate these new demands and stay future proof within our core broadcast infrastructure? This paper outlines the latest developments, at the technical and standardization levels, to handle the emergence of new production formats. It examines changes to the studio infrastructure that add the flexibility needed to accommodate new production formats alongside existing formats, with maximum compatibility and minimum confusion.
