Abstract
Over the past two years, academic research trends in spatial audio of the last decade are finding their way into commercial application. This development is mainly driven by the computer game and cinema industries. This article provides an overview of the current trends in spatial audio with a focus on applications and new paradigms for storage and future formats. Further development driven by the changing environments for audio applications are described and current trends in research are highlighted.
