Abstract
Managing the massive number of TVs deployed across Disney Studios is a monumental task. Each TV regardless of where it is placed (review room, conference room, office, etc.) is set to specific settings and calibrated. Setting each TV's settings and ensuring that these settings are never lost or unintentionally changed is time consuming and error-prone. Productions sometimes need to change the settings on their TV to better match a reference perceptually for a certain scene, but the next user of the room often isn't aware what changes have been made resulting in support calls and lost time. This paper will describe how LG and Disney partnered to build an API and application for controlling TV settings on a large scale. LG Electronics (LG) has expanded their firmware's websocket-based API such that its picture settings are able to be controlled securely over the network. It allows both setting the picture quality parameters of the display as well as querying what their values are. With the new firmware that LG has created, StudioLAB has built a proprietary CLI and web-based interface for interacting with displays. TVs can be accessed as long as they are on the network from a central server allowing for both ease of use and security. This system can provide a valuable solution for the challenges of display management in the media industry and Disney has begun deploying it across its Studios.
