Abstract
Studies on HDTV are being carried out by many organizations and groups around the world, including NHK, EBU, ATSC, and the CCIR. For over 10 years, SMPTE has been active in these studies, has maintained liaison with the EBU, and has directly supported the efforts of the CCIR. As a founding member of the Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC), SMPTE pledged support of its Television Technology Committees to the work of this new organization.
