Abstract
After almost five years of research carried out within the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), the CCETT laboratories were led to study and realize the so-called D2-MAC-packet system, as a member of the MAC-packet family promoted by the EBU.

Jacques Sabatier is the Director of the CCETT (Common Research Center between PTT and TDF) mainly concerned by communication services and systems, terminal equipment and program production techniques. From 1972 to 1980, he has worked infield of television coding for production and transmission before being promoted vice-director of the TDF laboratories in the CCETT from 1981 to 1983.

Daniel Pommier is the head of the Department “Modulation” in the CCETT. This department is involved in the work of sound-data-picture transmission through satellite and terrestrial transmitters. Daniel Pommier joined CCETT in 1974 to work on cable distribution systems; since 1977, he is involved in new techniques for sound-data-picture broadcasting.

Michel Mathieu is the head of the department responsible in the CCETT for studies on TV and sound customer products. He joined CCETT in 1974 to work on videodisc applications and more recently on most aspects of TV and sound transmission systems.
