Abstract: Many efforts have been made to form a world studio standard for high definition television(HDTV). In addition, HDTV equipment has been developed that shows the high picture quality of HDTV systems. Consequently, HDTV equipment is now expected to find markets in several new application areas and be used in the broadcastiong services in the future.

Yoshizumi Eto received his B.S.E.E. and Ph.D. degrees both from Tokyo University in 1966 and 1977 respectively.

Masuo Umemoto received his B.S.E.E. degree from Kyoto Technical University in 1969. Since joining Central Research Laboratory, Hitachi, Ltd. in 1969, he has been engaged in the research activities for home VTRs, PCM tape recorders, solid state camera and digital VTRs. His research interests are modulation codes and high reliable reproducing circuits for magnetic digital recording. He is a member of the Institute of Television Engineers of Japan. Since joining Central Research Laboratory of Hitachi, Ltd., he has been engaged in developing of home VTRs, TV cameras, facsimile modems and digital TV equipments. Currently, he is a senior researcher of the 5th department in his laboratory, managing the research activities for future digital video recording and TV camera technologies.

bio
Toshiaki Kawamura received his B.S.E.E. degree from Kyushu Institute of Technology in 1958. He has been engaged in developing and designing of VTRs for broadcasting use. Currently he is a deputy general manager of Koganei Works, Hitachi Denshi.
