- Abstract
- In the magnetic recording of conventional television signals in a studio, a bandwidth of about 5 MHz must be recorded. The physical characteristics of familiar recording systems and the requirements in regard to signal-to-noise ratio are taken into account by using narrow-band frequency modulation. A typical frequency spectrum of this type of recording is shown in Figure 1.

Dr. Dieter Pohl was born in 1934. He received his MSc degree in 1961, and his PhD degree in 1974 from the University of Aachen, Germany. In 1961, he joined N. V. Philips' Gloeilampenfabrieken, where he worked on the development of military vision and medical X-ray equipment. In 1973 Dr. Pohl joined Robert Bosch GmbH, where he has been responsible for the development of automotive testing equipment. In 1977 he became General Manager for Research and Development in the Television Equipment of Bosch (Bosch-Fernseh) in Darmstadt. Dr. Pohl is an active member of the SMPTE. - Copyright
