- Abstract
- The number of lines per picture is generally accepted as an indicator of the performance of a television system. Fiqure 1 shows the number of lines per picture, with the approximate date at which each broadcast service was initiated.

Charles W. Rhodes was born in Buffalo, New York, in 1929. He attended the University of California from 1947 to 1950. In 1954 he joined the Columbia Division of CBS, as a Field Engineer. Rhodes joined Tektronix in 1956 and has been with that firm since then, participating in their development of TV instruments. He holds seven U.S. patents on TV measurement technology and is Chairman of EIA, TR4.4 (Video); a Fellow of the SMPTE (1972); and a Fellow of the IEEE (1980). Presently Mr. Rhodes is Chief Engineer, TV Products, Communications Division, Tektronix. - Copyright
