Abstract
Component coding with luminance and two color-difference components (Y, C<inf>1</inf>,C<inf>2</inf>) has recently received much attention for its use as a uniform representation of programs generated using 525-line (NTSC) and 625-1ine (PAL SECAM) standards, [1], and also as a road to reduced encoding bit rates, [2].

David Izraelevitz was born in Montevideo, Uruguay, in March 1960. He received the B.S. degree in Computer and Systems Engineering in 1981 from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. For the last three summers, he has been in the Cooperative Education Program at RCA Laboratories, Princeton, N.J., where he has worked on various aspects of television communications and signal processing. He is presently pursuing the M.S. degree at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he is involved in spectral estimation.

Joshua Koslov received his S.B. and S.M. degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1980. He was a student co-op, and is now a Member of Technical Staff at RCA Laboratories, where he has worked on such projects as digital tape recording, cable television, and flat-panel television.
