Abstract: During the period 1978/79, an in depth study was undertaken into the television operation to determine amongst other objectives the likely effect of the rapidly developing computer and particularly microprocessor technology on television production and management techniques.

Mr. J. W. Anderson was born in 1953 and educated at Rugby School and Cambridge University, England where he received an MA degree in Computer Science. Having served an apprenticeship with EMI Electronics Limited, he joined EMI Sound & Vision Equipment as a systems engineer and progressed into a project management position. After the closure of this company he transferred into the military electronics field where he became a section head to a group of computer hardware and software design engineers. In October 1981 he joined Protel Computer Systems Limited as Technical Director and one of its founders.
