- Significant advances in the art of magnetic recording technology in the 1970's made the development of a Broadcast Quality Video Recording System based upon the VHS (Video Home System) tape transport and cassette possible.

Koichi Sadashige, Director, Engineering Development, Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., and Manager of the Matsushita Applied Research Laboratories, became a member of the SMPTE in 1962, and a Fellow in 1980. In 1977 he received the SMPTE Journal's Honorable Mention A ward for his paper on “Overview of Time-Base Correction Techniques and Their Applications,” published in the October 1976 SMPTE Journal. He is the author of many other technical articles, many of which have appeared in the Journal. Among other responsibilities at Matsushita, Sadashige handles the coordination of specialized engineering and marketing efforts between Japan and the United States.Ichiro ArimuraMatsushita Electric Ind. Since joining Matsushita Electric in 1960, Ichiro Arimura spent his entire career on the development of magnetic video recording system. His recent achievements include the development of the long recording versions of the VHS System, and the “M-Format,” the broadcast quality recording system based upon the VHS cassette and tape transport. - Copyright
