- Abstract
- The worldwide standardization of digital video recording necessitates in addition to standard mechanical parameters a standardized magnetic track pattern on the tape. It is necessary to specify the location of each picture element within the track, the channel code and the type of error protection. These parameters should all be discussed with the aim of finding an economic solution to the problems of digital video tape recording.

Jürgen K. R. Heitmann received the “Diplom-Engineer” degree in communications engineering from the Technical University of Braunschweig, Germany, in 1972. He joined Robert Bosch GmbH, TV Studio Equipment Division, in 1973, where he was involved in research and development work for digital coding, storing and synchronizing of color TV signals. Since 1981 Mr. Heitmann is Manager for development of digital video equipment and in this position responsible for the digital video recording. - Copyright
