- The editing facility described in this paper is located at CBS Television City in Hollywood. This facility is the first editing room to utilize the new 1" broadcast quality helical scan video tape machines which offer so many advantages over quadruplex machines for post-production eaiting.

bio
W. C. Nicholls graduated with a BSEE from Purdue University. He joined the CBS Television Network in 1966. While holding various positions in the Engineering and Development Department, he participated in the colorization of Broadcast Center in New York, the development of the CBS slow-motion disc recorder, and the first computer editing system. Currently Associate Director of A/V Engineering, he is responsible for the design and installation of technical facilities at Television City and Studio Center in Los Angeles. Mr. Nicholls is currently completing a large-scale update of Television City which includes three computer-controlled edit rooms, an audio mixing room, and the refurbishing of three studios. A member of SMPTE, he represents CBS on the SMPTE Committee on Video Recording and Reproduction Technology, as well as the EBU Sub-Group G-2 on Video Recording. - Copyright
