Raymond J. Smith has been Director, Technical Operations, at WKYC-TV (formerly WKYC-TV/AM/FM) since May, 1966. He came to the NBC Television Station in Cleveland from Buffalo, NY, where he was Chief Engineer at the State University of New York. In 1954, Ray joined WGR-AM/TV in Buffalo, as Studio Supervisor. He was named Manager of Technical Operations for the Buffalo stations in 1957, and maintained his association with WGR until August, 1965. A native of Buffalo, Ray Smith attended the American Television Institute of Technology and was graduated in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Broadcast Engineering. From 1943 to 1946, during World War II, Ray served with the U.S. Naval Air Corps in the South Pacific. Smith and his wife, the former Jeanne Killen, have four daughters: Kristine Fuerst, Mrs. Douglas Baldi, Mrs. William Hill and Kathryn Ann. In his leisure time, Ray enjoys photography, history, travel and flying; he received his pilot's license in 1964. Ray is a member of the Institute of Electrical Electronic Engineers.
