Abstract
We have developed a single-chip PDP display controller that increases the effective color depth from around 32,000 that the PDP can originally provide to 16.7-million colors using error diffusion. The new error diffusion circuitry operates at 50 MHz, allowing us to handle even HDTV images, whereas previous algorithms were limited to static image processing. This chip also provides gain-control and level-adaptive dithering to minimize the gradient distortion and flicker caused by the application of error diffusion to the PDP.
