Progress Report of the “SMPTE Study Group on Digital Television Tape Recording”

William G. Connolly received his degree in Mathematics from Columbia University, New York City, in January 1957, after a four-year tour of duty with the United States Air Force. He joined the CBS Television Network in 1960 after four years with the Automation Applications Department of the Western Union Telegraph Company. In 1965, he became Associate Director of Engineering for the CBS Television Stations Division and subsequently returned to the television network to assume the post of Director of Development, in the Engineering and Development Department. In his present post as Managing Director of Development, he is responsible for the development of all new components and systems for use in the technical facilities throughout the network. He has been the author or co-author of several SMPTE Journal papers. He is presently serving a term as SMPTE Governor of the New York Region. Mr. Connolly was the recipient of an Emmy Award for the development of the CBS Color Corrector in 1971. He resides in Garden City, N.Y. with his wife Lorraine and his six children – Virginia, Michael, Kathleen, Patricia, Peter, and Susan.
