- Abstract
- Digital magnetic recording is probably as old as the earth itself. The earth's magnetic field was indeed retained by lava becoming solid a hundred million years ago, and the hundreds of flux reversals that have been occurring since that time are now stored in the Atlantic ocean deeps within a natural “tape” of lava flow running at a few inches per year. More recently, the first experimental achievement of alternate magnetization of a steel wire was reported by Arago to the French Academy of Sciences in 1820.

bio
Dominique J. Nasse began his technical career in 1970 when he joined the research department of the Office de Radiodiffusion Television Francaise (ORTF), which is the French state-owned radio and television network. He was active there in the development of quadruplex and helical VTRs and automated editing systems. Since 1975, he has been with the Centre Commun d'Etudes de Television et de Telecommunications (CCETT) where he presently leads several research teams on studio-oriented digital television and recording projects. He has contributed recommendations for international standardization to the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). - Copyright
