- The purpose of this dissertation is to explore what and how broadcasters in the United States think about digital video recording. The paper will examine requirements that broadcasters envision, including features, operating costs, maintainability, interfacing and finally, general observations and views of format and timing of introduction of a viable, digital video recorder.

Edward Herlihy, vice president of engineering for Golden West Broadcasters, is in charge of corporate engineering and acquisitions, labor relations, long-range planning and duties as a FCC liaison. Herlihy, who became vice president in 1977, brings to his position a strong technical background. Prior to his current assignment, he served as director of engineering for KTLA-TV, director of technical services for Kaiser Broadcasting Company and sales engineer for RCA Broadcast Equipment. Herlihy graduated from Boston University with a major in communications and served for three years in the U.S. Army Signal Corps. - Copyright
