Abstract
The ability to transfer compressed files in a broadcast facility from one video server to another or from acquisition equipment to video storage devices is a growing demand in the Broadcast industry. Various vendors have proposed a number of different approaches to this requirement. Philips Broadcast Television Systems (Philips BTS) has endorsed the emerging SMPTE standard, Serial Data Transport Interface (SDTI), to transfer compressed files from one device to another. This paper will discuss the various aspects surrounding server to server file transfers and issues related to moving files from one device to another and various aspects of different approaches including compressed serial digital interfaces and Fibre Channel Arbitrated Loop.
