Abstract
NHK is developing Super Hi-Vision (SHV), a new television system capable of providing a highly realistic viewing experience. NHK and Sony have recently developed a baseband processor unit (BPU-8000) that works in combination with a Sony F65 camera to produce 8K video, 4K video, and HD video output signals in real time. The F65 is a commercial digital cinema camera and has an image sensor that is over 4K in resolution. Using the BPU-8000, it is easy for us to use F65 and 8K cameras together to produce 8K live broadcasts. Furthermore, we facilitate 8K post-production after location shoots by equipping the F65 camera with a portable recorder.
