- Cloud adoption is growing at a 22% annual rate. SaaS apps revenue will reach $258 billion in 2020 (Forrester Research). This train is unstoppable. The economic and systems benefits are compelling and being leveraged by media companies worldwide. What does facility migration to the cloud involve? What low-hanging fruit can migrate now? What are the tradeoffs? This talk is a short tutorial on cloud basics with tips on migration. Aspects of architecture, application delivery, economics, open systems, and operations are considered. If you are a cloudspotter, this paper is for you.

bio
Al Kovalick has worked in the field of hybrid AV/IT systems for the past 20 years. Previously, he was a digital systems designer and technical strategist for Hewlett-Packard. Following HP, from 1999 to 2004, he was the CTO of Pinnacle Systems. For the next 6 years he was a Corporate Fellow at Avid. In 2011 Al founded Media Systems Consulting. Al is an active speaker, educator, author and participant with industry bodies including SMPTE and AMWA. He has presented over 50 papers at industry conferences worldwide and holds 18 US and foreign patents. He is the author of the book “Video Systems in an IT Environment, 2ed”. In 2009 Al was awarded the David Sarnoff Gold Medal from SMPTE. Al has a BSEE degree from San Jose State University and MSEE degree from the University of California at Berkeley.
