Abstract
Audio/Video synchronization (“Lip-sync”) is an ongoing problem in digital multimedia broadcasting. This paper will review some of the sources of the problem (end to end in the system), as well as current work towards resolving it being undertaken by different organizations (SMPTE, IEC, EBU, ATSC, CEA, …) worldwide. A new CEA “CEB-20” which provides detailed decoder implementation guidance will be reviewed in detail. The work of the current SMPTE Study Group will also be reviewed.
