- Abstract
- The media technology sector stands at a critical inflection point. As video now accounts for more than 80% of global internet traffic, the energy and carbon impacts of media creation, distribution, and consumption are very real. The industry has made progress. Green production standards are widely adopted, awareness is growing, and voluntary initiatives have gained traction; however, systemic challenges persist. Reports from leading industry bodies reveal a picture of cautious progress: sustainability is gaining importance but often still takes a back seat to cost and efficiency. Against this backdrop, the Media Tech Sustainability Series (MTSS) launched the Media Climate Accord (MCA) at IBC 2025, a framework designed to unify efforts and accelerate measurable progress across the global media ecosystem.
