Abstract
SMART-CD is a French collaborative project aimed at providing an energy-optimized video streaming solution that allows operators and users to understand and control their environmental impact. By developing clear consumption metrics and optimization technologies for the various steps in the end-to-end distribution chain, the consortium contributes to the greening of video streaming. This paper presents the context of the SMART-CD project, the technological challenges to be overcome, and the initial results obtained during the first months of joint work. It also discusses several concrete optimization strategies currently under development.
