- Abstract
- The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) is the specialized agency of the United Nations (UN) for information and communication technologies (ICTs). Its primary roles are to allocate global radio-frequency spectrum and satellite orbits, develop the technical standards that ensure networks and technologies seamlessly interconnect, and strive to improve access to ICTs to underserved communities worldwide.

Available: http://www.itu.int/rec/R-REC-BS/enproduction, to address the effects of the HDR to SDR down-mapper used to monitor or shade the HDR signal in production and also to describe two approaches to the use of HDR and SDR monitors in situations where close proximity cannot be avoided. Ongoing works include an objective measurement algorithm for evaluation of the brightness of HDR television; viewing conditions for use in live single-master HDR productions where SDR and HDR displays are unavoidably located in close proximity to each other; and skin tone evaluation software in television production based on the Jzazbz color space. Ultrahigh-Definition Television WP 6C has updated Report BT.2246, which describes the state of the UHDTV development, to include 8K broadcasting in China. WP 6C has continuously revised Report BT.2245 that collects HDTV, UHDTV, and HDR-TV test materials, to include new materials. The recent update was to include new 4K and 8K HDR materials. Full-Color Gamut Image WP 6C considered a proposed full-color gamut (FCG) image system based on Yxy encoding. Although some members believed FCG was a very interesting idea that could bring new experiences to broadcast television, others expressed concerns about the advantages of FCG and felt it would take some time to develop an end-toend understanding of the benefits. It was concluded that more evidence was needed before further progress could be made. Video Quality Assessment Methodology WP 6C celebrated the 50th anniversary of Recommendation BT.500 that provides methodologies for the assessment of image quality. WP 6C has revised this Recommendation to add a new post screening method. Advanced Sound Systems Work continues on a revision of Recommendation BS.1770, which defines loudness measurement algorithms, to add an algorithm to measure the objective loudness of object-based audio signals or a combination of channel-based and object-based audio signals. WP 6C has revised Recommendation BS.755, which defines a multichannel stereophonic sound system, to provide guidance on the use of low-frequency effect (LFE) when low-pass filters (LPFs) are employed, considering a possible increase in group delay by the cascaded use of LPFs. Accessibility WP 6C has revised Report BT.2207, which deals with accessibility to broadcasting services, to address audio description technologies applicable for live broadcasts. The Intersector Rapporteur Group (IRG-AVA) established between ITU-R and ITU-T has been developing a common user profile that is targeted at storing EXTERNAL
