- Abstract
- Alongside the creative challenges of producing and distributing great video content internationally, there is a huge administrative burden. The contributors—writers, directors, actors, musicians, and more—to the production all have to be paid. Sources of funding have to be reconciled, managed, and, in due course, reimbursed. Once the content is complete, then revenues must be collected from those who buy it—broadcasters, over-the-top (OTT) services, other distributors, the packaged physical media supply chain, and even individuals. Some of those revenues will be retained by the producer, and some will be passed on to the supply side. Working with producers, broadcasters, content funders, government agencies, unions, and policy makers, at Groupe Média TFO, we have developed a prototype platform that uses blockchain to create a completely fresh approach to managing all of these relationships.

bio
Éric Minoli is a serial innovator and disruptor, who combines the creativity and risk-taking of a digital media entrepreneur with the meticulous planning and organizational vision of a process engineer. In his 20 years, he has fearlessly pushed the limits of what is possible in the world of audiovisual production. He has overseen Groupe Média TFO’s amazing transformation from a single minority language TV channel into an award-winning, multiplatform digital content and distribution network of premium French-language education content. He has overturned traditional broadcast practices, decentralizing post-production by installing Adobe Premiere editing packages on more than 60 laptops, which radically altered workflow and productivity. Most recently, his disruptive influence has manifested in the creation of the Laboratoire d’Univers Virtuels (LUV) rewarded by the Innovation Award and the Judge’s Prize at 2017 IBC. Since the departure of the former chief executive officer, Glenn O’Farrell, on 17 August 2019, Éric Minoli, chief operating officer, has assumed the operations of Groupe Média TFO.Ulrich Dessouassibio
Ulrich Dessouassi has spent his working life designing digital solutions to the problems of producing and distributing compelling educational media content. Trained initially as a civil engineer, he soon realized the structures he most desired to build were in the realm of software. In 2005, he completed a second degree in software engineering. As directeur des produits numériques at TFO, Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Ulrich augmented this combined training with strategic and tactical insights gleaned from leading the creation and development of innovative and transformative projects that have had a tremendous impact on the organization, as well as the entire industry. More recently, he oversaw the development and launch of a blockchain prototype that heralds a potentially revolutionary new royalty model for content production and distribution in Canada. As the new director, data governance and project management officer, he is facing new challenges that include accelerating the second transformation of the company to data-driven decision making. - Keyword(s)
