Abstract: The object of this paper is to describe the many applications in the entertainment industry requiring video projection where traditional projection technologies are not well adapted, and show the unique properties of the laser video projector that may overcome some of the difficulties encountered in these unusual applications. The basic operation of the laser video projection technology is also described, and a brief outline of the limitations is given.

bio
Tony Clynick graduated from Manchester University in 1968 with a degree in electronics. He then began a long career in the audiovisual industry, specializing in the project engineering of optical end electronic control systems for entertainment applications. This work took him all over the world, with projects undertaken at Expo ‘70 and Expo ’85 as well as many other venues. — In recent years he has concentrated on the development of laser-based systems, in particular the laser video projector, with projects undertaken at Expos, exhibitions, and theme parks. He has presented conference papers on the subject of laser video projection and is a member of SMPTE and SPIE (International Society for Optical Engineering). He currently holds the position of technical director of Laser Creations International Ltd.
