- Abstract
- An extensive theoretical expansion of Schardin's description of the information-content concept of the resolution limits in rotating-mirror frame cameras forms the bulk of this paper. Complete information is presented on aperture ratio, resolution, framing rate, effective exposure time and light source requirements as determined by the rotating-mirror size and object velocity. From this information the mean resolution per frame is obtained as a function of the photographic image velocity. This function could be used to evaluate various types of rotating-mirror frame cameras. In addition there is brief coverage of an extension of the theoretical study to include rotating-prism and image-dissecting cameras, electrooptical shutters and image-converter tubes. The inherent low resolution of image dissectors and image-converter tubes suggests that their most efficient use is in the highest image-speed range and that high-resolution rotating-mirror and rotating-prism moving-film cameras are most useful at lower speeds.
